The Federal Antimonopoly Agency of the Russian Federation has proposed to investigate billet and rebar and impose export duties to ease the sharp rise in local prices over the past month.
According to a letter from the Russian Federation Antimonopoly Authority to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, the proposed export tax on the other blank is 13%, but not less than $73 per ton, while the proposed export tax on the export of rebar is 12% and not less than 78 yuan per ton within six months.
The Federal Antimonopoly Agency also said export tariffs should include both waste as raw materials and downstream products such as billet and rebar. The proposed export duty for scrap is 15%, not less than $49/ton.
