Japan’s iron ore imports totaled 11.5 million tons in August, falling by 4.3% from a month ago and decreasing by 5% year on year, according to statistics released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance.
In August, Australia was the largest iron ore exporter to Japan with 6.98 million tons, decreasing by 17.2%; Brazil was the second largest one with 2.88 million tons, rising by 6.5%, both compared to the figures in the same month of 2012.
In the first eight months of this year, the country’s iron ore imports amounted to 90.1 million tons, up slightly in comparison of the figures in the same period of 2012.
