According to statistics, Malaysia’s scrap imports totaled 1.099 million tons in the first half of this year, rising by 15.4% year on year.
In the given period of time, the country’s scrap imports from the US totaled 395,000 tons, increasing by 5.5%; those from South Africa were at 180,000 tons, rising by 17.7% and those from Singapore were at 174,000 tons, up by 9.7%, all compared to the figures in the same period of 2012.
In June alone, Malaysia’s scrap imports totaled 284,000 tons, increasing by 31.4% year on year and soaring by 55.2% from a month ago.
