It is reported that China's coal imports may grow about 30% year on year to 170 million metric tons this year, boosted by great demand for the fuel in the power generation and steel industry.
China may overtake Japan as the world's largest coal importer this year, according to the report. In the first four months of this year, China's net coal imports reached 50 million metric tons. In the month of April, the country's coal imports fell 11% year on year to 13.5 million metric tons. Last year, China imported 125.8 million metric tons of coal, 212% more than in the previous year.
