According to data, Korea’s scrap imports totaled 741,000 tons in September, falling by 10.1% year on year but rising by 13.8% from a month ago.
Among them, 282,000 tons were from the US, soaring by 80.4% and 227,000 tons were from Japan, falling by 34.6%, both compared to the figures in the same month of 2012.
It’s known that the Korean steelmakers tended to buy the US scraps as the Japanese scrap prices were much higher than the US scraps.
