US raw steel production was 1,873,000 tons in the week ended October 5, 2013, while the capability utilization rate was 78.2%, according to the AISI. Production was up 1.1% from the previous week and up 9.6% from the same 2012 week when output was 1,709,000 tons, while the capability utilization rate was 68.7%. Adjusted year-to-date production through October 5, 2013 was 74,026,000 tons with a capability utilization rate of 77.2%, or down 3% from the same 2012 period when output was 76,353,000 tons and the capability utilization rate was 76.8%. Broken down by districts, production for the week ended July 27, 2013 was: North East, 211,000 tons; Great Lakes, 676,000 tons; Midwest, 220,000 tons; Southern, 678,000 tons, and Western, 88,000 tons.
