Despite steady prices for the past few weeks, the US pig iron market has been relatively quiet. Prices for pig iron kept at $412-418 per lt, f.o.b. barge New Orleans as there was no reported business despite active offers. In contrast, both prime and shredded scrap prices held firm at $425 per gt and $360 per gt respectively, while no HBI transactions have been reported. Overall, sources speculate that most mills have sufficient supply for the near-term, and as a result, demand should keep flat for the time being.
