[Ferro-alloys.com] Chinese cobalt metal prices have firmed in response to higher Western prices and decreased imports of cobalt concentrates. Cobalt metal smelters said they have no choice but to raise prices because of higher raw material costs. They are quoting 206-212 yuan per kg ($15.27-15.72 per lb) with little success. In the first four months, China’s cobalt concentrate imports fell 25% to 50,227 mt compared to 67,044 mt in the same 2012 period. Imports were mainly 48,971 mt (63,202 mt in the first four months of 2012) from the Democratic Republic of Congo and 1,222 mt (2,019 mt) from Cuba. In April the main importers were: Zhejiang Huayou, 3,632 mt (3,764 mt in March); Ganzhou Tengyuan Cobalt, 3,411 mt (1,444 mt); Jiangsu KLK, 2,285 mt and Yantai CASH Industrial, 1,891 mt.
