Japan’s exports of unwrought cobalt and powder jumped 56.5% to 371 mt in the first quarter compared to 237 mt in the same 2012 period. Exports to US rose significantly to 197 mt, compared to 64 mt, while exports to China were 104 mt compared to 97 mt the year before. Traders had complained during Q1 that Japanese producers were offering 99.8% Co at reduced prices in Western markets.
