[Ferro-alloys.com] Metalloinvest will build a third HBI plant at Lebedinsky in Russia. The new USD850-million plant will have a production of 1.8-million mtpy of HBI and will be the largest HBI module in the world. Siemens and Midrex Technologies have signed a contract with Metalloinvest to provide the design, engineering and construction. Midrex technology was used at Metalloinvest’s second HBI plant, which was commissioned in 2007. That plant produces more than 1.4-million mtpy of HBI. HBI accounted for 7% of Metalloinvest’s total production volumes in 2011. HBI is expected to account for 12% of production volumes after the modernization of existing facilities and the introduction of the new module.
