[Ferro-alloys.com] Chinese tungsten prices have been firming. The Ganzhou Tungsten Assn. raised its March indication floor price for tungsten concentrate to $303 per mtu from $298 per mtu in February. The March indication price for APT was increased to $335 per mtu from $324 per mtu in February. Spot prices for tungsten concentrate in China have firmed to $293-298 per mtu compared with $280-285 per mtu. The price is expected to stabilize in the next few weeks now that most of the mines that were shut for the New Year’s holiday have resumed operation.
Chinese export prices for APT are $348-358 per mtu, f.o.b. compared to $340-350 per mtu. China exported 175 mt of APT in January vs. 228 mt in December 2012 and 311 mt in January 2012. Exports were 66 mt (40 mt in January 2012) to Japan; 40 mt (zero) to Germany; 40 mt (99 mt) to Rotterdam and 29 mt (114 mt) to the US.
China’s imports of tungsten concentrate totaled 1,073 mt in January vs. 1,014 mt in December and 519 mt in January 2012. Imports were: 632 mt (97 mt in January 2012) from Russia; 158 mt (24 mt) from Rwanda and 125 mt (107 mt) from Canada.
