[Ferro-Alloys.Com]Japan’s pig iron exports through September jumped to 89,742 mt compared to 16,086 mt in the same 2011 period. Of the total, exports to China soared to 55,650 mt, up from 161 mt. Those to Taiwan totaled 14,650 mt, up from zero. Exports to Korea were marginally higher at 12,144 mt compared to 11,133 mt, and exports to Thailand more than doubled to 4,946 mt compared to 2,177 in the first nine months of 2011. Japan began exporting heavily from April through July. In August, exports plunged. September exports recovered to 6,562 mt compared 263 mt in August, 10,128 mt in July, 27,884 mt in June, 14,353 mt in May and 21,495 mt in April. Exports in the comparable 2011 months were: 410 mt in September; 3,272 mt in August; 225 mt in July; 579 mt in June; 362 mt in May and 433 in April. Of the September 2012 exports, 4,023 mt went to Korea and 2,198 mt to Thailand.
