[Ferro-Alloys.com]India former Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh had announced in 2009 that India would double steel production by 2012, form original 60 million tons in 2009 to 124 million tons in 2012. But now it seems impossible to achieve this target.
The steel production in 2011 was at best 75 million tons and it is unlikely to reach more than 80 million tons this year, still very far away from former Minister’s target of 124 million tons.
Analyst said the government shouldn’t be blamed entirely since the economy took its toll, but indeed the government could do something to improve the production than what it is now.
