[Ferro-alloys.com]Japan’s imports of unwrought cobalt, powder, intermediates and matte fell to 793 mt in August, down 34.8% from 1,216 mt in July and down 22.1% from 1,018 mt in August 2011. Imports were (with August 2011 in parentheses): Finland, 322 mt (428 mt); Canada, 196 mt (190 mt); Australia,123 mt (145 mt) and Norway, 21 mt (77 mt). Total imports for the first eight months fell 11.3% to 6,962 mt compared to 7,848 mt in the same year-ago period. Imports included, among others: 3,362 mt from Finland, up 4.7% from 3,212 mt; 1,294 mt from Canada, down 14.5% from 1,513 mt; 672 mt from Zambia, up 38.6% from 485 mt; 563 mt from Australia, down 45.9% from 1,041 mt, and 363 mt from Norway, down 47.1% from 687 mt.
