Iron Ore Pellets Industry Development in China

It is reported that in recent years China has increased pellets mills number many folds and by the beginning of 2009 there were more than 70 pellets mills in China.
 
Domestic pellets production development caused agglomerated raw materials import decrease. Thus, in 11 months of 2009 non-agglomerated iron ore raw materials import to China grew by 38% comparing with 2008; at the same time agglomerated raw materials import fell by 22 % in 10 months of 2009 as compared with 2008.
 
In 2008 Yanbian Tianchi Industry & Trading Co Ltd Company in the eastern province Jilin started a pellets mill of the capacity 1.2 million tonnes a year. Yanbian Tianchi Industry & Trading Co Ltd also owns a concentration plant in the south of China.
 
In May 2009 Benxi Iron & Steel Co Ltd introduced an iron ore pellets plant of the capacity 2 million tonnes a year in Dengta. The investments amounted 62.8 million and the construction took 2 years.
 
Guangdong Zhanjiang Longteng Logistics Co Ltd started test works at the new pellets plant of the capacity 5 million tonnes in Zhanjiang in May 2009. This is the biggest pellets plant in China. The construction started in 2007. The investments amounted about USD 340 million.
 
Handan Steel started the second pellets line of the capacity 2 million tonnes a year on June 1st 2009. The investments into the line construction amounted USD 43 million tonnes.
 
Anyang Steel announced its plans on the pellets plant of the capacity 1.2 million tonnes a year in conjunction with the Brazilian Vale. The companies have signed the agreement on the plant construction for USD 91 million. Anyang Steel and Vale have been cooperating on iron ore raw materials supplies since 2005.
