Chinese Iron Ore Import in 2009 Surges by 42% YOY

World’s biggest buyer of iron ore China increased purchases of iron ore in 2009 by 42% YoY with 62.2 million tonnes in December 2009.

December imports were 22% MoM higher than the 51.1 million tonnes in November and 80% YoY as against December 2008.

The December figures were the second highest after September’s 64.6 million tonnes.

Imports of iron ore rose to 627.8 million tonnes in 2009 up by 41.6% YoY from 443.6 million tonnes in 2008.
