[ferro-alloys.com] South Africa's production in the same period is at a high level. Mr. Cassian Battistini - Glencore International AG, Chrome Trader and Mr. Sean Edwards - Glencore South Africa visited Japan. At the Imperial Hotel (Tokyo) on September 25, both persons made a comment on their outlook for ferro-chrome market in the period from October to December in 2013 as follows in reply to the questions made by our reporter (Saito).
The production volume of high-carbon ferro-chrome (including charge chrome) in the former half (January - June) of 2013 is estimated to be approx. 4.64 million tons of the world's production, of which approx. 1.3 million tons was produced in South Africa. Although the production capacity in South Africa is approx. 4.5 million tons per annum, this year's production is deemed to be close to 3.1 million tonnes partly due to 450,000 ton less production because of cooperation for buy-back of electricity implemented by an electric power corporation, ESKOM.
We think the Ferro chrome production volumes in South Africa for the remainder of the year will be at a quite high level, as producers continue to replenish stock which was drawn down during the first 5 months of this year to meet their long term contract requirement. However, some producers may decide to cut the production depending on the price and fluctuation of the South African Rand
