[ferro-alloys.com] While spot sales direct to consumers were not active over the past week or more, inter-trade activity remained extremely high as traders looked to take a quick position on 0.05 and 0.10 C. With lagging sales from the DLA over the past three months and no BOA sale of low-carbon expected in October, anyone that was hoping to purchase material out of the depot is out of luck. The September BOA sales report should be released soon, but there is uncertainty around the exact date given the current congressional mess in Washington. Low- carbon ferrochrome 0.15% rose this past week following some sales to domestic mills, with prices hovering at 191-193 cent per lb. In the HC ferrochrome market, prices remained steady at elevated levels, and many expect additional appreciation when spot market activity rises. Since last week, very limited activity was noted. Most upward pressure, however, is largely supply-side driven, specifically in Europe. Sellers reported even higher quotes currently out among purchasers. Any action could drive numbers well beyond 100? per lb for high-carbon ferrochrome in the US.
