【Ferro-alloys.com】: Western Australia-focused Fenix Resources has awarded a mining contract to MACA, a subsidiary of Thiess Group, for the development of its Beebyn-W11 iron-ore mine.

The contract covers drill and blast, mining, and crushing and screening operations as the company advances toward a targeted production rate of four-million tonnes a year in 2025.

Works for Beebyn-W11, a 1.5-million-tonne-a-year project, are set to begin in the June 2025 quarter, with haul road construction scheduled for March. First production is expected during the September quarter.

The mine is located 20 km from Fenix’s Iron Ridge operation in the Mid-West region and forms part of Sinosteel Midwest’s Weld Range project.

Fenix secured the right to mine and export up to ten-million dry metric tonnes of iron-ore from Beebyn-W11 in October 2023. The project has a Joint Ore Reserve Committee-compliant ore reserve of ten-million tonnes at 62.2% iron, with 8.3-million tonnes in proven and 1.7-million tonnes in probable ore reserves.

Production is expected at an average C1 cash cost of A$77.5 a wet metric tonne (wmt) free on board at Geraldton, or about $50.40/wmt in US dollars.

The Beebyn-W11 development aligns with Fenix’s strategy to expand its production profile in the Mid-West, with the project set to become its third operating mine in the region. The company remains on track to achieve its four-million-tonne-a-year production goal in 2025.
