Pilbara Ports reports figures for February 2024

[Fellow] The Pilbara Ports, Australia’s leading hub for the export of dry bulk commodities, handling vast quantities of iron ore, coal, and other minerals essential to global markets, reported a total monthly throughput of 52.7 million tonnes (Mt) for February 2024.

The performance was 4% lower when compared to those from February 2023.
 
The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 39.5 Mt, of which 38.8 Mt was iron ore exports. When compared year on year, there was a minimal variance in the performance, according to the port authority.
 
Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totaled 157,000 tonnes, a 3 % decrease compared to February 2023.
 
The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughoutput of 12.3 Mt, a 16 % drop from the same month a year earlier.
 
Imports through the Port of Dampier totaled 127,000 tonnes, a major increase of 46% when compared to February 2023.
 
Pilbara Ports Authority said that several factors influenced the fluctuations of throughput, including changes in market conditions, port maintenance operations as well as proponent needs.
 
Overall, the total throughput across all ports since July 1, 2023 stands at 485.2 Mt.
 
Pilbara Ports is currently working on the development of a multi-user facility and logistics hub at Lumsden Point in the Port of Port Hedland. The facility is intended for exporting battery materials such as lithium and copper concentrates, importing renewable energy infrastructure and increasing direct shipping services to the Pilbara.
