In the week ending on July 29, 2023, US domestic raw steel production was 1,749,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.9 percent. Production was 1,721,000 net tons in the week ending July 29, 2022 while the capability utilization then was 78.1 percent. The current week production represents a 1.6 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending July 29, 2023 is up 0.5 percent from the previous week ending July 22, 2023 when production was 1,741,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.6 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through July 29, 2023 was 51,111,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.8 percent. That is down 2.4 percent from the 52,362,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 80.0 percent.
