In order to support future technical and commercial operations, the mining group Eramet announced the creation of Eramet Chile S.A., which is already operational, mainly focused on business development and exploration.
Eramet is a specialized mining group, worldwide leader in the production of metals needed for the energy transition (lithium, nickel, cobalt), which already has strong experience in the development and construction of infrastructure for the exploration and exploitation of lithium on the continent.
The structure of the Chilean office will be led by Hubert Porte, who will take over as Chairman of Eramet Chile S.A. and will be supported by two geologists. In addition, the team is expected to grow as the plans in the country progress.
In Argentina, the Group has been producing lithium carbonate for three years using direct extraction technology in a large-scale pilot plant in the Centenario-Ratones salt flat, where a plant is being built and will start operating in 2024. In this regard, part of the company's objectives is to beneficiate a lithium deposit in Chile in accordance with the strictest ESG standards in the sector. Eramet, which is 27%-owned by the French state, is currently the world's largest producer of manganese ore and operates the world’s leading nickel mine in Indonesia. It is also the first European company to develop sustainable lithium production on an industrial scale. Listed on the Paris Stock Exchange, Eramet employs more than 10,000 people in 15 countries, and its annual revenue is close to $5 billion. It also has a strong commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, which enables it to combine the operational performance of its activities with high standards regarding the preservation of the environment and the socio-economic development of local communities.
