[Fellow]Thyssenkrupp’s Largest Steel Mill Back in Operation

【Ferro-alloys.com】Thyssenkrupp Steel put BOF Meltshop 2 at its largest steel mill in Duisburg with an annual capacity of 5.4 million tonnes back into operation on 19 August 2021. As part of the relining of blast furnace 1, the hot metal of which is mainly processed into crude steel in BOF Meltshop 2, the scheduled downtime did not cause any additional production losses. The focus of the modernization was the replacement of the ladle transport crane inside the workshop, which has a dead weight of 830 tonnes and transports the ladles filled with 265 tonnes of molten steel from the converter to the continuous caster.

With this investment in plant availability, Thyssenkrupp Steel is consistently pursuing its strategy: The steel company is optimizing its entire production network within the scope of its Strategy 20-30 and is gearing its product portfolio consistently to future markets and profitable steel grades. This includes, for instance, ultrahigh-strength multi-phase steels, grades with high surface quality and steels for e-mobility.
