Affected by the loss of power generation capacity of power companies, eskom3 announced on October 10 that it would implement the second phase of power rationing from 5 p.m. on Wednesday to 11 p.m. on Friday, according to the South African government on the 10th.
Persistent poor performance at Kusile, Duvha and Tutuka power stations, as well as delays in resuming service for some other units and failures last week, triggered the second phase of power rationing, according to Eskom's statement on Wednesday. At present, the company plans to maintain 6212mw of power generation, while due to faults and delays, another 11217mw of power generation is not available.
Eskom also warned that the blackout could continue until the weekend, depending on the plant's ability to resume service from planned maintenance and the level of emergency generation reserves.
