According to the American Iron and Steel Association (AISI), the fourth week of February (as at 27 February 2021), the US crude steel production is estimated at 1.749 million short tons (1.5867 million tons), 7% lower than 1.88 million tons in the same period last year, a slight increase of 0.2% compared with 1.745 million short tons of the previous week.
That week, the U.S. steel plant utilization rate was 77.2%, down from 81.3% in the same period last year, but higher than 77% in the previous week.
Regionally, the crude steel production in the Northeast of the United States is estimated to be 15,5000 short tons, an increase of 1.31% month-month; The crude steel production in the Great Lakes region is 624,000 short tons, a decrease of 2.04% month-month; The crude steel production in the central and western regions was 181,000 short tons, a decrease of 1.09% month-month; The crude steel production in the southern region was 715,000 short tons, an increase of 2.14% month-month; The crude steel production in the western region is 74,000 short tons, an increase of 2.78% month-month.
Since this year (as of February 27), the adjusted total U. S. crude steel production was 14.357 million short tons, down 8.4% from the same period last year; The steel plant capacity utilization rate was 76.5%, lower than the same period last year 81.9%.
