Tata Steel, an Indian steel producer, plans to double the steel capacity of its existing plants in Orissa and Jarkand to 40 million tons a year, the Economic Times reported.
"The expansion in Angar, Kalinganaga and Janshepur will increase the company's production capacity from the current 20 million tons per year to 40 million tons per year. Kalinganaga can be increased to 15-16 million tons, Angel can be increased to 10 million tons, and Janschepur can be increased to 14 million tons. When you expand in the same location, you can significantly reduce costs. "The company wants every plant to be world class and globally competitive," says T V Narendran, chief executive of Tata Steel He added that the world's most efficient steel plant produces 15 to 20 million tons of steel a year.
