[Fellow]India Balasore Alloys suspends production of chromium products indefinitely

Ferro-alloys.com:Indian chrome products manufacturer Balasore Alloys suspended production due to debts owed to the next energy company due to the negative impact of the global epidemic.

Due to the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia, Balasore Alloys faced a supply chain disruption due to the rapid decline in chromium product prices and low demand, and the company ceased its activities indefinitely. Balasore Alloys cannot pay for electricity, which accounts for about 50% of raw material costs.

Part of the electricity supply was cut off from April to August. Since September 14, the electricity supply of Balasore Alloys has been completely cut off and production has stopped, Metal Expert learned.

The company's next step is to appeal to the Supreme Court of Orissa, which considered the situation to be force majeure and allowed Balasore Alloys to defer the payment of electricity bills.

At the same time, according to the information provided by the company, the company was unable to restart the factory and resume stable operations. The company has notified its customers that it is not responsible for supply interruptions and non-compliance with previously signed contracts. The time for the restart of BalasoreAlloys has not been announced.

Balasore Alloys is one of the largest ferrochrome producers in India, with ferrochrome plants in Balgopalpur (135,000 tons per year) and Jabamoyee (16,000 tons). The necessary amount of chrome ore comes from its own mine (Odisha). At the same time, in December 2017, Balasore Alloys obtained a license to acquire a 70% stake in Zim Alloys, an integrated ferrochrome producer, with an annual production capacity of approximately 89,000 tons.
