[Ferro-Alloys.com] The American Iron and Steel Institute’s (AISI) Board of Directors formally elected John Brett, president and CEO of ArcelorMittal USA, as AISI’s Chairman of the Board of Directors for the 2020-2021 term. Brett has been serving as interim chairman since mid-March after the retirement of previous chairman Roger Newport, former CEO of AK Steel.

 

“I am grateful to my fellow board members for supporting me in this role to lead the Institute during this important period in our history. I am encouraged by the progress made in the past year, and I look forward to working with my board colleagues to ensure steel remains competitive and to highlight our priority issues with policy makers and customers. I look forward to working with the AISI team to strongly promote our industry and our messages,” said Brett.

 

“With more than 30 years of work in the steel industry, John Brett is one of the industry’s most respected and influential leaders. He is a dedicated advocate for North American steel and I am confident that, under his leadership, AISI will continue to see tremendous advocacy successes on behalf of our members,” said Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of AISI. Gibson will be retiring this week. The election took place at AISI’s virtual meeting of its Board of Directors.
