[Ferro-Alloys.com] Turkish steel mills' purchases of deep-sea ferrous scrap cargoes for July shipment have so far reached at least 1.147mn t, just below the 1.196mn t purchased for June shipment.
Steelmakers are still expected to purchase another 50,000-100,000t of July-shipment deep-sea scrap, but almost all of their requirements have been met.
Mills carried out the July-shipment purchases made so far within a small period of just under three weeks, from 27 May-15 June.
Total deep-sea imports for June and July shipment are estimated to reach over 1.25mn t for each month, once all buying has been completed.
At least 34 deep-sea cargoes were sold to Turkey for July shipment compared with at least 41 for June shipment. A total of 45 of the 75 deep-sea cargoes for June and July shipment are scheduled for the second half of June to the first half of July period.
US exporters accounted for 13 of the 34 July-shipment cargoes, a total of 447,000t.
Only seven continental European cargoes were sold for July shipment, totalling 236,000t, compared with 17 sold for June shipment.
Five UK cargoes were heard sold for July shipment, a total of 153,000t.
Six Baltic cargoes and three Russian cargoes were sold for July shipment, totalling 188,000t and 118,000t, respectively.
A total of 12 of the 34 July shipment cargoes are Iskenderun-bound, another 12 are headed for Marmara, nine are bound for Izmir and one is going to Samsun.
