[Ferro-Alloys.com] Integrated steelmaker ArcelorMittal is taking a planned outage at one of the blast furnaces at its Burns Harbor mill.
The 2.73mn short ton (st)/yr blast furnace C is one of two at the Burns Harbor mill in Indiana. The company confirmed the outage, though it did not give any further specifics, citing the quiet period prior to its release of its first quarter results.
Market participants have said the outage is expected to last two weeks, and that ArcelorMittal will then assess whether or not to restart the blast furnace.
The Burns Harbor mill primarily serves the auto industry, which has been shutdown since mid-March amid Covid-19 containment efforts.
More than 10.1mn st/yr of integrated flat rolled steel capacity has been idled in the last month. JSW Steel USA announced last week that it would idle its 1.65mn st/yr Mingo Junction, Ohio, electric arc furnace for four weeks.(Argusmedia)
