[Ferro-Alloys.com] US Steel will indefinitely idle its tubular steel mills in Texas and Ohio as a result of challenging market conditions and high import levels. The company has issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices to employees of the Lone Star Texas mill and Lorain Ohio mill advising that layoffs related to the idle could take effect in as little as 60 days. Spokeswoman Meghan Cox said “Any remaining orders for the idled facilities may result in some shift to one of US Steel's other tubular facilities.
 
After receiving several complaints from workers at the AK Steel plant in Dearborn, US Reps Debbie Dingell D-12th District and Rashida Tlaib D-13th District, State Rep Abdullah Hammoud D-Dearborn, State Sens Stephanie Chang D-Detroit and Sylvia Santana D-Detroit are calling on Cleveland Cliffs, the new owner of the plant, to take all necessary measures to protect the safety and health of the workers immediately. In a joint statement they said “The elected officials are aware of at least one worker at the plant who has tested positive for COVID-19.
