Steel and Tube Holdings and the Commerce Commission have each offered the record $1.89 million fine forced against the organization for distorting steel work items it sold. The controller said Auckland District Court Judge Warren Cathcart failed a month ago by not enough considering the extent of Steel and Tube and the potential it needed to pick up from the unfortunate behavior. Nor had the judge appropriately credited the learning of a Steel and Tube administrator to the organization, the commission said. Attorneys for the commission had at first required a fine of between $3.8 million and $4.6 million as a beginning stage.
