Stated on Tuesday by the US steel company that at its plant in Granite City, Illinois, near St. Louis, they are resuming the other one of the two blast furnaces. This will employ 300 workers to support the effort. 500 positions were occupied by fresh and returning employees when the company pronounced to restart their first furnace at the facility. According to the US Steel CEO David Burritt in a press release, reviewing watchful consideration of conditions of market and the demands by customers, along with the impact of Section 232, the reopening of the blast furnaces at Granite City Works will let us serve the rising demands of customers for high quality products smelted and poured in the US. Exemptions were granted in the beginning for few of its US allies, later in the last week slammed 25% tariffs on imports of steel and 10% on aluminum imports from Mexico, EU and Canada.
