Felman Production, a producer of high-quality ferrosilicomanganese used in the manufacturing of steel, announced that its Ferroalloys manufacturing plant in New Haven, West Virginia has completed 60 years of extraordinary achievement.

The company’s executives and employees celebrated this anniversary along with Congressman Bill Johnson (R-OH) and Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) on July 22, 2012.

The Felman Ferroalloys Plant manufactures high-quality ferrosilicomanganese, an important desulphurizer, deoxidizer and alloy additive utilized in steel production. For more than 60 years, metallurgical clients from various industries in the U.S. and abroad have depended on the plant to supply raw materials required for their metal offerings. Since the start up of the Felman Plant in 1952, it has been owned by several companies, including Highlanders Alloy, American Alloys and The Vanadium Corporation of American.

Silicomanganese improves the hardenability, wear resistance, stiffness, toughness and tensile strength of steel and helps increase the effectiveness and safety of the finished product. The alloy is produced by melting and blending raw materials into molten metal and it is used to deliver unique chemical properties to steel and cast iron to eliminate deoxidization and corrosion. The plant is the second facility in the U.S. to manufacture ferroalloy silicomanganese.

Felman Production is investing to renovate the plant’s infrastructure and equipment, particularly its three submerged arc electric furnaces that are utilized to melt and blend raw materials and chemical agents for producing ferroalloys.
