Korea's Steel Statistics Results of Demand & Supply for Ferroalloy in October 2015

The production volume of ferroalloys in October 2015 compiled by Korea Iron and Steel Association (KOSA) was 52,995 tons, up by 7.9% from 49,125 tons in the prior month. The item-wise comparison with the prior month was high-carbon ferro-manganese being up by 9.7%, low-carbon ferro-manganese being down by 1.5% and silico manganese being up by 14.5%, and the items except low-carbon ferro-manganese continue to go up. 

On the other hand, the quantity shipped was 43,716 tons, up by 7.6% from 40,618 tons in the prior month, the breakdown of which was the quantity for export being 21,728 tons, up by 9.0% from the prior month and the quantity for domestic consumption being 21,988 tons, up by 6.3% ditto.

As to the shipment of ferroalloys, in addition to the shipment to the domestic market being up by being supported by the increased volume of crude steel, the export of ferro-manganese (both high-carbon and low-carbon) was strong.

However, the month-end inventory of ferroalloys was 107,005 tons, up by 6.1% from the prior month.

As to the production volume of crude steel in October by the steel mills in South Korea, the production volume by converter was up by 5.2% from the prior month and the one by electric furnace up by 15.0% ditto, which led to the total being up by 8.1%.
