Korea's Steel Statistics:Results of Demand & Supply for FA in July 2015

The production volume of ferroalloys in July 2015 compiled by Korea Iron and Steel Association (KOSA) was 39,329 tons, down by 2.0% from 40,118 tons in the prior month. The item-wise comparison with the prior month was high-carbon ferro-manganese being up by 14.6%, low-carbon ferro-manganese being down by 0.8% and silico manganese being grossly down by 22.6%, which resulted in the total production being down from the prior month as mentioned above. 
 
On the other hand, the quantity shipped was 41,105 tons which stayed at 3.1% down from 42,428 tons in the prior month, the breakdown of which was the quantity for export being 20,833 tons, down by 9.9% from the prior month and the quantity for domestic consumption being 20,272 tons, up by 5.0% ditto. 
 
All the items for export were down from the prior month, but by contraries, all the items for domestic consumption were up from the prior month.
 
For a reference, the month-end inventory of ferroalloys was 92,340 tons, down by 1.9% from the prior month.
 
As for the production volume of crude steel in July by the steel mills in South Korea, the production volume by electric furnace was down from the prior month, whereas the one by converter was up, which resulted in the total volume being up by 1.0%, which gave a boost to the increased production of ferroalloys meant for domestic consumption.
