[Fellow]Vale has shut down its ferro-alloys plants in Brazil’s Minas Gerais State as high energy prices made it economically unviable to operate them, the company said on Wednesday April 22.
Vale has shut down its ferro-alloys plants in Brazil’s Minas Gerais State as high energy prices made it economically unviable to operate them, the company said on Wednesday April 22.
 
Total ferro-alloy production fell to 27,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2015, down from 46,000 tonnes in the same period of 2014. Ferro-silicon manganese alloys (FeSiMn) accounted for 12,000 tonnes, followed by 9,000 tonnes of high-carbon manganese alloys (FeMnHc) and 5,000 tonnes of medium-carbon manganese alloys (FeMnMC).
