[Ferro-Alloys.com]Elimination of ferroalloys export tariffs and power price cut are the main topics discussed at China Ferroalloys Industry Association Membership Meeting on April 15. China imposes 20%-25% tariffs to its ferroalloys export, which caused a sharp decline on China's ferroalloys export, and the ferroalloys producers strongly expect the elimination of the export tariffs as China's ferroalloys producers lose most of their global market shares. Meanwhile, domestic electricity prices are unreasonable and it is expected that the basic electricity price can be abolished to lower the production costs of ferroalloys.
It is better for the ferroalloys producers to improve their internal competitions than to expect preferential policies, such as elimination of tariffs and electricity prices cut, said Liu Weiguo, president of China Ferroalloys Industry Association. The elimination of export tariffs would only lead to a sharp decline of ferroalloys export prices and little profits would be gained, Mr. Liu stated. And the electricity prices cut would benefit everyone in the ferroalloys industry, which would make no difference for the industry, he added.
What the ferroallys producers should do is to improve their internal competition, such as process update in the production of ferrosilicon, low-carbon ferromanganese and low-carbon ferrochrome that would lower the production costs, Mr. Liu suggested.
If the companies want to make more profits, instead of complain of the policies, they'd better think of a way of reducing their production costs by the innovation of technology.
