[Ferro-alloys.com] Market prices of calcium silicon continued to be steady in late August, with still much difference between quotations and traded prices. Calcium silicon producers had normal production. The first batch of eradication of excessive industrial capacity involved over ten calcium silicon producers, with about 20 furnaces scattered in China’s Gansu, Shanxi, Ningxia and Shaanxi regions. The furnaces must be stopped before the end of September, but this had little impact on supply as most of the listed furnaces were already suspended.
Compared with mid August, the market prices of calcium silicon kept flat: CaSi30# were RMB10,400-10,500/mt (USD1,690-1,706/mt) in Shaanxi, RMB10,200-10,400/mt (USD1,657-1,690/mt) in Ningxia, RMB10,400-10,500/mt (USD1,690-1,706/mt) in Inner Mongolia and RMB10,600-10,800/mt (USD1,722-1,755/mt) in Henan. Prices of CaSi28# were RMB100-200/mt (USD16-32/mt) lower than CaSi30#. Export prices of CaSi30# were USD2,100-2,150/mt FOB, with thin deals.
Demand was depressed at current period and excessive supply still existed. Prices of calcium silicon were expected to be supported by production cost.
