[Ferro-alloys.com] In late August, market prices of calcium silicon were still stably low in China, much lower than quotations. The current market situation was much due to excessive capacity and output of Chinese calcium silicon.
Over the recent few months, calcium silicon producers had kept normal production, but summer was the low season for calcium silicon, which caused supply over demand. Calcium silicon producers faced fierce competition and they took slight pessimistic attitude toward later period.
MIIT of China required the small calcium silicon furnaces to be eradicated before the end of September, but this had little effect on supply in China. As some producers were constructing or upgrading large furnaces.
