[Ferro-Alloys.com] High-grade silicon metal prices went up this week. Delivered price of Si3303# was RMB13,500-13,700/mt (USD2,213-2,246) and 2202# was RMB14,200-14,400/mt (USD2,328-2,361) in Kunming, Yunnan province. The export prices were as following: Si553# USD2,080-2,120/mt FOB, 441# USD2,160-2,200/mt FOB, 3303# USD2,260-2,300/mt FOB, 2202# USD2,360-2,400/mt FOB at Huangpu port.
In early April, the tight supply of low-grade Si products happened on high-grade silicon metal. On one hand, producing costs of Si products were in high levels and the capacity utilization rate was low. On the other hand, few plants have the ability to product high-grade Si products due to low standards for elements. Therefore, the supply of high-grade Si products was few. With the inquiries rose, prices of high-grade Si products were driven to improve. As for export market, inquiries for silicon metal increased. While consumers had less desire to accept the high prices.
Si price had less fluctuation on international market. It rose to €2,050-2,100/mt in Europe. Meanwhile, it was ¢134-141/1b in America.
Although Si products were in shortage, the demand from downstream aluminium industry was not that active. The main reason was that the business of aluminium products was not easy to do. Consumers were cautious to buy Si products. Rainy season still needs some time for manufacturers. It’s predicted that Si price may trend to be flat in future on inactive demand.
